Last Night

Last night I dreamt of you
Of course you hadn’t changed
Left unaged
Still free
Pure and wild
Bursts of creativity
Unchained by convention
Wearing what no-one else
Could dare wear
A blurry haze
Always smiling
Mischief and mayhem
Within lapis lazuli gaze
Brimming with wit
Infectious fun
Next to you I was clumsy
So very awkward
Picking up the sun
Left behind in your shadow
But I didn’t mind
If I wasn’t found
If others saw just you
Your voice the only sound
Untethered
Never challenged
Through my blinkered view
Inexplicable
Burning bright
I would always seek you

Memory Tree

Sepia Sleeping

Skipping through the memories
Happy to see them again
Visiting the past in my dreams
Can be fun
Frivolous
Like a free holiday to my youth
Winding down that lane
Tiptoeing through
Those daisies of destiny
Seeing the twisty turns made
Those nearly almost
Ah not quite misses
My older self shakes brunette hair
Flashing sparks of hidden grey
Smiles in a way
The younger self would hate
Find patronising
That sweet doppelganger self
With wide eyed naivety
Tripping through life
Creating hazy memories
For me to find in my sleep

Tiltyard

She still dreamt of him
A quarter of a century
Many lives later
Since the sunshine
In the tiltyard
During the joust
Of their youth
Caught in radiance
Never forgotten
Singed in her heart
Always drifting
Never forgotten
Floating back
Into her dreams
