The Miniaturist by Jessie Burton is set in Amsterdam during 1686 and is a vivid glimpse at the city’s history and culture. It has a dash of mystery, suspense and hints of magic in its pages. Challenging at times it is worth keeping with its complicated and emotional tale. Whilst I have mixed feelings about its conclusions I liked its honest portrayal of the challenges faced by women at that point in history.
