A Long Long Way

A Long Long Way by Sebastian Barry is brutal, heartbreaking yet has flashes of down to earth humour. At times its almost lyrical in its style of narrative. It’s important to remember the horrors of the first World War and trench life but brace yourself for an honest and traumatic read.

All Quiet on the Western Front

All Quiet on the Western Front ~ Erich Maria Remarque

Be warned All Quiet on the Western Front is not an easy read due to its brutal honesty and subject matter. It’s from the perspective of a young soldier during World War I and what is striking is that this soldier is German yet facing the same horrors as his counterparts across the battlefield. It brings home the futility of war and the struggles faced by any side in any War regardless of nationality. I wish this extraordinary book was on school curriculum and would urge you all to read it at least once in your lifetime.
